SUCCESSFUL WRITING 5TH ED. BY DKTODAY

In the twenty years since the first edition of Successful Writing, the elements of good writing haven’t changed. Good writing is still clear, vigorous, well organized, tightly focuses, and adopted to its audience. Our goals in writing the Fifth Edition are also the some as they have been throughout our three decades of teaching writing and teaching teachers of writing. Quite simply, we want to offer writers clear and useful suggestions for strengthening their writing and to show them how they can develop a piece of effective writing through a process that is manageable and reliable.

But if the standards for good writing have not changed, the kinds of writing college students now do and the ways they now deliver their writing have changed a great deal. Students today still write essays and research papers, but they also create Web sites, contribute commentary to listservs, give oral presentations (often accompanied by PowerPoint slides that they also write and design), and of course write tons of email. And so this new edition of Successful Writing has been expanded to offer students the help they need for those various–and evolving–writing situations.
